What will I learn? Trauma can relocate in our body as a physical illness or a disorder. We consult a health professional because of physical or emotional pain. As we develop habits to deal with our discomfort, we feel confused and unable to name what we have lost. Example: Whilst taking history, a patient mentions that she was raped when she was seven. Without immediately referring her to another health professional, how can you use this diamond-moment of truth to assist her in dealing with that trauma incident? Values based listening will assist you to hear with your heart: “Did you perhaps lose a sense of being in control, protection, respect for your body?” A new world opens up when a patient feels heard and the threads of their unravelling comes together in a value they can restore in a healthy way.
About Annette
At the back of my business cards are the following words: “You can only care for others, if you care enough to take care of yourself.” In the helping professions we often struggle with the Messiah-complex and feel guilty that we are unable to help everybody. As we listen to the pain of the clients we counsel, we need to stay resilient in our self-care to set healthy boundaries. Learning how to map your inner emotional world, opens up new insights and choices. Emotional Logic taught me how to become emotionally unstuck and thrive again.
